Education as a Practice
Jane’s House Studio in Saint Charles opened in January 2002, with a sincere mission of serving others and leading them to a more holistic way of living. Our beloved space has had a strong heartbeat and breath ever since.
Over the past two decades, our founder, Robin, has had the great privilege to train with many teachers, beginning with Ayurveda studies, formal Yoga training, and most recently, certification with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, as well as becoming a Certified Reflexologist. Her innate passion for both learning and teaching developed organically into a passion for training teachers, and in 2005, just three years after opening its doors, Jane’s House also became a Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance, and we offered our very first 200hr Yoga Teacher Training.
The lineage of our school traces back to the practical Yoga education principles outlined by Tirumalai Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar, both known as fathers of modern yoga, and we proudly honor their primary principles.
Yoga is personal and accessible to all. Yoga can be adapted to the individual so that the practice is essentially direct intimacy with life itself.
The practice of yoga, as a lifestyle and posture practice, unfolds through Vinyasa Krama, an intelligent step-by-step process to fulfill a specific goal.
The Heart of Yoga is Relationship. Right Relationship is the classroom within which the transmission of these self-empowering teachings occurs, as well as the opportunity to put the teachings into real-time practice.
The Krishnamacharya and Desikachar lineage has directly informed our school’s teaching style and methodology.
We teach Action and Inquiry, and the relationship between the two. Posture practice approaches the body as an entry point into observing the inner workings of the mind. Observation opens the doorway to self-inquiry, which can then inform action.
Our teaching style sees teaching and learning as two sides of the same coin. Our trainees learn how to teach asana by being students and refining their own personal practice.
Our teaching style is based in authentic relationship, and because of this, its impact is transformational.
We honor the intelligence of the Vinyasa Krama principle, which addresses not just what is being taught, but how it is being taught. The course of our training program is itself based on Vinyasa Krama toward the end goal of educating and shaping authentic and skillful teachers of Yoga.
Our teaching methodology sees Yoga as accessible and relevant to all individuals. Through meeting each body exactly where it is, trainees learn how to address functionality as well as vitality of the body, breath, and mind.
Our teaching methodology includes the entire ethical foundation of the lifestyle practice, and as a result, elicits the innate wisdom of each individual.
Since 2005, our trainees have consistently shown up, not just physically, but in mind and heart. They commit and recommit to themselves, this practice, and their education. They can be real and stay in open dialogue and relationship, especially when challenges or opportunities for growth arise.
For anyone who might be considering attending our training program, you can expect to be a completely different person by the end of the training, and yet, more of who you truly are. Through the transformational process of this program, you can also expect to learn how to teach asana very creatively according to Vinyasa Krama guidelines, with full freedom to express the teachings as they uniquely live within you.
This program is a labor of love and sincere offering of the heart. Here at Jane’s House Studio, our lives have personally been transformed by the teaching of Yoga, and our deepest desire is to share these teachings from a place of service. We are currently accepting applications to our 200hr Foundational Teacher Training Program, which begins this October. We invite you to learn more about the transformational education we offer at our studio!
